Some Moms Watch Their Adult Kids Have Adventures. I Decided I Wanted to Be IN Them.

But first, I had to prioritize my health.
There's a moment I keep replaying in my mind.
My daughter and I are standing on top of a cliff at Garden of the Gods — an absolute breathtaking place and instead of quietly taking it in, we are dancing. Silly, ridiculous, completely unself-conscious dancing. The kind you do when you forget anyone is watching. The kind you do when you are just so alive that your body can't help itself.
She's 25. I'm in my 50s. And I am keeping up with every single step.
I didn't know how much I needed that moment until I was standing in it. And I knew — the way you know things deep in your bones — that I almost missed it. Not because of distance or circumstance, but because of choices. Choices I made years ago that either could have kept me on the sidelines of my own life, or put me right in the middle of it.
I chose the middle. And that has made all the difference.
The Question Nobody Asks Until It's Almost Too Late
When we're in our 40s, most of us are running hard. Kids at home, careers demanding everything, relationships requiring maintenance, and somewhere at the bottom of the list — ourselves. Health becomes reactive instead of intentional. We deal with problems as they show up rather than building something that prevents them from showing up at all.
And then one day, your kids are grown. They're out in the world living full, adventurous, energetic lives. They're hiking trails and traveling and saying yes to everything because they have the energy and the body to back it up.
The question is — are you going to be IN that life with them? Or are you going to be watching from the sidelines, too tired, too stiff, too depleted to say yes?
Nobody asks that question out loud. But I'm asking it now, because I had to ask it of myself, and the answer changed everything.
What I Was Actually Working Toward
I want to be honest with you about something. For a long time, my health goals looked like everyone else's. Smaller. Lighter. A certain size, a certain number, a certain look. And while there's nothing wrong with wanting to feel good in your body, I was working toward the wrong finish line.
The finish line I actually wanted — the one that mattered — was this. Dancing on a cliff with my daughter at 25. Having the energy to say yes when she calls and suggests something spontaneous and physical and completely out of my comfort zone. Being the mom who shows up fully, not the mom who sits it out.
I also want to be clear: this isn't just about her. I'm out here living my own adventures too. Fully. Unapologetically. My life at this age is bigger and more vibrant than it's ever been, and that doesn't happen by accident. It happens because I made a decision years ago to stop treating my health like an afterthought.
When you start building your health around life goals instead of appearance goals, everything shifts. The habits stop feeling like punishment. The choices feel like investments. And the payoff is moments like the one on that cliff — moments that become the evidence that it was all worth it.
What Prioritizing Your Health Actually Looks Like
I'm not going to give you a list of ten things to do tomorrow. What I will tell you is what has been true for me, because I think it's more useful than a generic checklist.
It starts with a decision, not a plan. The plan comes second. First, you have to decide that you are worth the investment. That future you — the one who wants to dance on cliffs and say yes to adventures and keep up with people she loves — deserves your attention right now, today, even when it's inconvenient.
It requires consistency over perfection. I have had plenty of imperfect days, imperfect weeks, even imperfect seasons. But I kept coming back to my habits because I knew what I was building toward. Consistency is just showing up more than you don't.
It means eating in a way that fuels your life. I've been low-carb for years, and it is the single most impactful nutritional decision I've ever made. My energy is stable, my weight is managed, my mind is clear. Food stopped being something I fought with and started being something that worked for me.
It means paying attention to your energy. Not just when you're tired, but understanding why you're tired, what depletes you, and what restores you. This has been a game-changer for me — and it's led me to something I use every single day that has made a dramatic difference in how I feel, how I age, and how I show up. I'll come back to that in a moment.
It means moving your body like you love it. Not punishing it. Not grinding it into the ground. Moving it because it's capable and strong and because that capability is a gift worth protecting.
The Conversation I Want You to Have With Yourself
If you're in your 40s or 50s and you're reading this, I want you to sit with one question:
What does the life I actually want require of my body?
Not the life you think you should want. Not the Instagram version. The real one — the adventures, the relationships, the spontaneous yes moments, the trips, the dances on cliffs.
Does your health right now support that life? Or are you quietly hoping it won't matter as much as you suspect it might?
I'm not saying this to be harsh. I'm saying it because I was there. I know what it feels like to be running on empty and telling yourself it's fine. And I know what it feels like on the other side — when you've built something solid and your body shows up for you the way you need it to.
It is so worth it.
The One Thing That Has Made the Biggest Difference
I promised I'd come back to this, so here it is — no tease, no mystery.
It's ketones. Specifically, Prüvit's K1 ketones, and I've been using them consistently for years.
I know what some of you are thinking, because I thought it too before I understood what they actually are. This isn't a stimulant. It's not a fat burner. It's not a magic pill. K1 delivers clean, bioavailable ketone energy directly to your body — the same kind of fuel your brain and muscles run on beautifully when you're eating low-carb, but without having to be in a perfect state of ketosis to feel it.
What that means practically is this: I wake up and my energy is on. Not wired, not jittery — clear and steady. My brain works. My body feels capable. I don't hit that mid-afternoon wall that used to derail my entire day. And over time, the combination of low-carb eating and daily K1 has been the most consistent, sustainable approach to managing my weight and feeling genuinely good in my body that I have ever found.
For women in their 40s and 50s, this matters more than most people realize. Our hormones are shifting. Our metabolism is changing. The things that worked at 35 don't always work the same way anymore. K1 has been one of the tools that bridges that gap — giving me the energy and metabolic support to keep living at full capacity even as my body goes through its natural transitions.
I don't say any of this lightly. I have been in the wellness space for a long time and I am careful about what I put my name on. This is the real deal, and it's a non-negotiable part of my daily routine.

The Bottom Line
Some moms watch their adult kids have adventures.
I decided I wanted to be in them.
That decision didn't happen on the cliff at Garden of the Gods. It happened years earlier, in the quiet, unglamorous moments of choosing myself when it would have been easier not to. It happened in the meals I prepared and the mornings I showed up and the habits I built — K1 included — when nobody was watching.
The cliff was just the payoff.
Your payoff is out there too. But you have to start building toward it now.
Future you is dancing on a mountain somewhere. Don't let her down. 🤍
